WASHINGTON, DC (February 8, 2016) – Epstein Becker Green is pleased to announce that its affiliate consultancy EBG Advisors, Inc., has grown and strategically expanded its capabilities to include resources devoted to health care and employment, labor, and workforce management issues. Sam Nussbaum, M.D., a highly regarded physician and health care executive, and Xan Raskin, an experienced human resources (HR) and risk management professional, add further depth to the EBG Advisors platform.

Dr. Nussbaum, who served at WellPoint/Anthem for 15 years as Executive Vice President, Clinical Health Policy, and Chief Medical Officer, has joined EBG Advisors as Strategic Consultant. He brings deep knowledge across the spectrum of health care, having previously served as Executive Vice President of BJC HealthCare, the large academic and community health system in St. Louis. Dr. Nussbaum has extensive experience in population health, care management, data analytics, provider contracting, and medical and pharmacy policy and purchasing. Earlier, as a professor and clinical leader at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, he led basic science research, drug discovery, clinical studies, teaching, and patient care.

Dr. Nussbaum’s work has placed him at the center of health care transformation. At BJC, he was involved in building affiliated health plans. At WellPoint/Anthem, he was a principal architect of provider partnerships and deployed new approaches to value-based payment. These achievements position him to offer strategic guidance as health systems increasingly take responsibility for population health and financial risk, become accountable care organizations and, potentially, migrate to health plan sponsorship or alignment with health insurers. In addition, Dr. Nussbaum is a member of numerous professional organizations and has spoken at national and regional conferences pertaining to his medical research as well as on health care delivery.

“Joining EBG Advisors was a natural for me given the powerful reputation that Epstein Becker Green has in virtually every domain within the health care industry,” said Dr. Nussbaum. “The challenges and opportunities that hospital and health systems, insurers, physicians, and consumers are facing are numerous, but it is an exciting time as health care is undergoing a fundamental transformation. I look forward to sharing my skills and knowledge with Epstein Becker Green’s remarkable clients.”

Xan Raskin joins EBG Advisors as its very first Strategic Consultant to provide services for Epstein Becker Green’s Employment, Labor & Workforce Management clients. Ms. Raskin has devoted her career to solving workplace issues. She and her team provide strategic HR consulting support to companies of all sizes in a wide range of industries. Ms. Raskin has partnered with executive leadership on embedding culture and human capital goals for a competitive advantage; handled sensitive workplace investigations; created recommendations for HR administration; designed and implemented effective employment engagement, assessment, and development processes; and provided interactive, skill-building training and coaching for employees, managers, and HR professionals.

Previously, Ms. Raskin gained extensive HR and risk management skills by working more than 10 years at global Fortune 500 companies, including PepsiCo and Bristol-Myers Squibb, where she served as a Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. As principal legal advisor for all HR functions, she was pivotal in building companywide competency models, performance management and progressive disciplinary systems, training programs on discrimination prevention and diversity, layoff programs, HR due diligence and integration for mergers and acquisitions, an ombudsman function, and a centralized employee relations investigations group. Ms. Raskin earned her J.D. from Georgetown, is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, and has completed a Mediation Intensive Training Program, conducted by the Center for Understanding in Conflict.

“Whether clients want to pursue an opportunity in the health care industry or face a sensitive labor or employment issue that calls for services such as an internal investigation, additional HR training, executive coaching, etc., we encourage them to tap into the EBG Advisors strategic resource,” said Bob Atlas, President of EBG Advisors, Inc. “Sam and Xan, who are both well known in their specialties, deeply understand the dynamics of their industries and will bring invaluable talents.”

Now, with even more robust capabilities and a network that includes some 180 consultants, we’ve moved to the next level in the service of client advancement.”
